Spores of the Ophiocordyceps fungus fall on the ground and are picked up by the unsuspecting ant.1 The fungus infects the ant and control their muscles.2 The fungus forces the ant to climb up to reach higher ground.3 The fungus forces the ant to clamp onto leaves in a death grip. The fungus then kills the ant and grows a stalk and fruiting body. This fruit releases spores onto the ants below.4
